What We're About
Who We Are
The Colin M. Henry Athletic Scholarship is a registered charity with the University of Guelph. It provides annual scholarships to incoming or existing student-athletes on the Univerity of Guelph's men's soccer team.
Our Goals
Our mission is to help deserving student-athletes who need financial help to fulfill their potential.
The goal of this scholarship is to help as many student-athletes as we can. We are starting with the men's soccer program. We can fund other sports at the University of Guelph as we grow.
We want to partner with charitable or non-profit organizations with a philanthropy mandate focused on helping student-athletes achieve their potential.
In Honour of Alma Viola Henry
Colin M. Henry, a men's soccer alumnus, honours his mother, Alma Viola Henry, by establishing the first endowed scholarship for the University of Gueph's men's soccer team in 2018.
My mother passed away from stomach cancer (Sept 13, 2017). She and I were very close, and one of the things she kept asking me to do while she was alive was to set up a scholarship for the soccer team to give back to a sport and University that meant a great deal to me. She was immensely proud that I was the first in my family to attend and graduate from University.
She gave freely of her time to exchange students, and our house was always filled with some youth she was helping out. For these reasons, I established the first permanent scholarship for the soccer team at the University of Guelph. An annual scholarship will be awarded to a player in need with excellent academic standing each year while the soccer team remains in existence.
My vision is to see it grow through contributions from soccer alums, family, and friends as the years go by. With growth, we can provide scholarships to more students for years to come.
As a former recipient of an athletic scholarship to the U.S.A. before transferring to Guelph, I understand the impact a gift of this kind can have on an incoming or existing student-athlete.
